problem with my USB ports

After re-installnig W2K over itself, as a recent update screwed up all my settings, my USB ports won't work. Any device that I plug into them will light its l.e.d., but the device itself is not coming up. I checked the BIOS and all is fine there.

    Any clues?

    Seanie.

Nah, can't be as 'simple' as that...

By the way, as my pc boots up the following pop-ups occur, telling me that the following are (pretty much) missing:

    SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\Dxapi.sys

    SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\nvcap.sys

Now, there is no Sstem Root folder, but, subbing in the WINNT folder instead, the files are there in the Drivers folder...

    Anbody?

Have you tried re-installing the chipset driver.
It may be Intel, Via or some other.
Check under System devices in Device manager

or else from device manager remove the usb ports and reboot reinstall the driver for them

Odie, I presume you mean the chipset drivers that would be with the motherboard cd? I tried from that, and it didn't work.

How would I have the USB drivers? Are they not a generic item with the motherboard (built-in, and added on mine are).

Find the USB Root Hub in device manager, delete it.
Restart the PC. They with either install automatically, or will ask for your mobo CD.

Reinstalling W2K over an existing copy gives nothing but headaches in my experience.

Save yourself further irritation by formatting and installing from scratch.

try deleting the usb port first before re installing ;)

I got it! The USB 2.0 Hub driver was not installed, that was the problem. I reinstalled the driver from the Abit disc, and all is not working fine!

    Thanks for the help guys!

    :)
