Looking for guitarist, keys, vocals to get together in Dublin with an accomplished drummer, experienced bassist and crusty tenor sax player - Ranging from mid 20's to 40's. Ideally it would be great to have both lead and backing vocals.

The idea here is to form a working group who can rehearse regularly and get a great selection of Northern & Southern Soul tracks together for gigging. If you're interested or know someone who may be, get in touch and we'll get the ball rolling.

At the moment this is going to be fairly relaxed but I'm hoping to get something a little more serious finalised in the next 4-6 months. You don't need to have a great deal of experience but confidence and an ability to learn quickly are essential. You must have your own kit (suitable for the style of music we'll play) and reliable transport to the city centre for weeknight rehearsals. Once we reach a gigging stage I'll provide transport to and from venues for you and your kit if required.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

    Gil

Hi, I'm a 23 year old female vocalist. i have a bluesey, soulful, sometimes folky voice, with good range and a strong presence once i get going. I've been singing as far back as i can remember. I was originally classically trained, but over the last few years i've just been doing a bit here and there. Now that I'm finished college i am dieing to get my teeth into something good, with a bit of purpose about it, and to make some music with people who feel the same about what they do. I was born to this, my Dad's a sound engineer and my mother's a singer, and my grandmother was an opera singer. if any of this interests you you can PM me back, or contact me at valdesiana@yahoo.co.uk. I'm based in north wicklow, but travelling is no problem and I always have a bed in town if i need it.

    Josie

Anyone else interested? We're really interested in hearing from anyone who can play piano/keyboards, guitar or anything else that might fit with what I'm trying to do. Don't forget that Soul incorporates flavours of many different styles including Blues/Gospel/Country etc., and I'm open minded about the direction we'll end up taking.

    Whoops that explains it....

    Hi Gil,

I would be very interested in trying out for your band. I play guitar and can sing backing vocals, have my own gear and transport and can play in many styles, blues, country rock and roll...anything with soul basically. I love American soul artists such as Otis Reading/Booker T and the MGs/Aretha but my taste covers many styles and eras. I have been playing a long time, but I am always open to new ideas and adapting my style for the moment.

You can contact me at dermot10@oceanfree.net

Right - Think we're sorted for Drums & Bass, hopefully for Guitars & Vocals too. I'm still looking for someone who can play keys - Fender Rhodes style - And I can now provide a decent keyboard for anyone competent enough to want to have a go. If you're interested or know anyone who might be, get in touch via PM with a contact number and I'll give you a call.

Loved the commitments and bought the sountrack. Does that mean i got soul?

I guess it might qualify you to some extent! The great thing about the so-called 'Soul' genre is that it encompasses so many different musicians and some quite different styles. If you liked the commitments you should check out Taj Mahal, he's playing at Vicar St. this coming Wednesday night - Should be great.

Anyone else who might be interested in getting together, drop me a PM - I've organised one session so far and will finalise line-up fairly shortly!

Thanks to all who have replied so far,

    Gil

    Hi

I'm a 26 year old girl, was lead singer in the porterhouse on the Saturday nights with experienced rock band up until recently. I have plenty of stage experience - but not with the cocky, full of myself attitude.
I have a great range and am able to 'belt' out a good Aretha tune...and of course I soften it up too!
I love singing blues and soul and would meet up and give you a demo whenever.
    Cheers
    Nicola
