Getting a laptop bag that doesn't look like a laptop bag

I'm off to college in October (gah), and I'll need to get a bag that doesn't look like a laptop bag to shove my Vaio into to slightly reduce the chance of it being nicked (it IS DCU, after all...)

Its a 12" Vaio, and I'll need to carry the charger, possibly the dock, and possibly my ORiNOCO in its impact casing in there.

I know DC Shoes make laptop bags that look like skateboard gear bags, but these seem to be solely designed to fit Apple kit, down to specifically shaped charger components. I could just use a normal backpack, but I'd prefer something with padding/proper compartments

    Any ideas?

I actually have that already but its falling apart - because, barring the padded laptop section - it IS a cheap ass rucksack...

One of the straps has already frayed off, and its the one that I would normally use...

    I use an Airbag

    quick search found this pic,

    pic

great bag, cushioned at bottom, plus a fair amount of extra space. Even has hole for headphone for mp3 player. Bought in PC World.

That doesn't look too obviously laptoppy, thanks

Anyone any other suggestions before I go and let PCWorld (*spit*) take any cash off me?

my gf's dad bought her a bag with her laptop. its like a school bag with different sections for books, laptop and for the charger. as far as I know you can get them in the bag shop just off abbey street. nobody would suspect a laptop in it.

I use an ordinary rucksack, but the laptop is unreasonably durable considering it was bottom of the line a few years ago...

Just line a normal *swallows* Jansport bag with bubble wrap!

Speaking of unusual laptop bags has anyone tried these?

    http://www.thepouch.co.uk ?

They look interesting, but i'd like to hear from someone who actually has one.

If you stuck your laptop in one of these you could probably just throw it into your bag with the rest of your books...

And they cost less than getting a Dell bag bundled with your laptop...

My friend has one. They are quite good. Offer padding and water resistant. Get one of those perhaps and then just a normal ruck sack. Considering its a 12 inch should be eash enough to do.

Get a targa perhaps. The ruck sack versions don't really look like a laptop bag. DCU is rather safe I've not heard of people being robbed. If you think it will happen or is likely to happen get some insurance. You won't want to be bringing it in and out of college every day as you'll want to go socialise when it wasn't planned.

Try the sleevecase from http://www.sfbags.com - I have one for my VAIO S2XP and its great - it goes in my backpack as if it was another book :)

I got one of these about a year and a half ago and it's in full-time use with college and work. Possibly one of the best laptop backpacks made IMHO, it has a special compartment for the laptop which fits into a sleeve that comes with the backpack and comes in various sizes to suit different laptops. The price isn't for the faint of heart though, but the build quailty is top class and I can see my backpack well outlasting any laptop.

Dicota Rain....or any of the backpack-style bags should be what you want.

Have a look on amazon.com....even if you don't buy there, it'll give you a great idea of whats out there.
