Any k-1 fans will be pleased or displeased to know Peter Aerts is fighting in the upcoming Heros show I believe in an MMA bout. Not sure who he is fighting.

His days are numbered at K-1.. I wish he'd retire.. I don't want to see a legend like himself go down the drain in MMA. MMA & K-1 are two completely different sports.. Myabe he can do well if he works his ground game and his sprawl n brawl.

I think he can still take out a lot of the current K1 crop. I love the guy cos it always seemed to come easy to him. No offence to him but he never looked like the most conditioned guy out there. If you stand him beside Michael McDonald you'd almost say he never trained a day in his life. But what a gifted fighter.

LeBanner has done alright at MMA and IMO Aerts is a better fighter and maybe more suited to sprawl n' brawl.

On a side note, I was talking to Aert's GP's son on New Years eve..... long story but he told me some funny injury stories Aerts came to his Da with....

    aye come on..

Just checked out Aerts highlights there, some kicker.
Going to get some of his vids later, see how he does in the whole fight though,
as the highlights are just highlights. Seen him knocking out leBanner, then when I just watchted leBanner V Aerts fight, Aerts gets knocked down a few seconds later so...

Well, there was one or two, but I can't remember the exact details as it was new years eve and the guy had a freaky dutch accent that was a bit tricky to understand. Wouldn't like to repeat them here and get them wrong!Basically though there was a few interesting injuries when he came back from Japan a couple of times.

Nothing to suggest he wasn't anything but a good clean living sportsman though!

I know nothing of such matters. It was about 1am on January first and I'd had a feed of drink! Any info I'd repeat would be seriously questionable...

Fantastic fighter Aerts, last word ;)

hmm.. I've never actually seen K-1 and I just read the rules there... and it basically outlaws ground fighting.

Just wondering.. do the MMA/BJJ guys here see this as TMA/standup fighters 'running scared' from grapplers..? it seems like it to me.. (a TMA guy).

[altho i do realise the 'k' stands for 'karate, kung fu etc.. & I could see ppl making a case for no-grappling if they are talking about trying to increase the pure entertainment value of k-1].

It's a stand-up tournament, not an MMA tournament per se. The "Mixed" in this case implies a mix of stand-up styles.

K1 Romanex which occasionally runs alongside is an MMA event.

K-1 is just kick boxing. Usually no elbows or head butts. I think on some occasions they allow you to catch your opponents kicking legs and sweep him MT style. They do use the MT clinch too i think. It's great to watch.

    Stand up guys running scared....

I think not.. ask anyone of the big names in Pride, would they like a digging match with Mirko Cro cop... the answer will be no.... why cos the moment they look at him his left leg will KO em.....

" I have 2 legs this one will send you tothe hospital and this one will send you to the grave"... a famous quote from the man...

I reckon they run scared from those Croation shorts he wears.....
    Best striker in MMA????

You can sweep but it doesn't score or count as a knockdown. One strike once you catch a leg is allowed.

Soma they're not running scared, they're different competition formats. Don't know weather you were trolling looking for an argy there but you might do well to watch a bit of it before commenting. No offence intended.

I have to disagree with roper... he certainly sounds narrow minded, and comes across as if he doesn't know what he's talking about.
    'no offence intended'

Confused eh..... why? I just question your views thats all!!

No, you didn't question my views, you just put in a vague comment.

What view or views to you question? Or is it just a general narrow mindedness that you're concerned about?
