    i have a dream.

a dream of an emulator capable of running every type of rom in the world with perfect fidelity and stability, whether it be gamecube, cps1,2,3, or master system. and i have named her.......Unicorn.

in ten years time much of this will be probably true. hopefully also the copyrights laws would have changed to enforce some kind time limit to the copyright, ten years say, after which the rom would then become public property.

we're brave lot, us retro gamers. living half inside the law and half out. ghandi taught us that peaceful protest and civil disobedience are right ways of changing the law.if we stick to it maybe one day my dream will become true.

It would be bloatware. Standalone emulators are much better. MAME is a case in point - its too damn big and bloated now. Imagine MAME 50 times bigger than it is now - thats your unicorn, and its not a system I want to use.

There are a fair amount of front ends available that let you run various console and arcade emulators with a joystick and buttons and without having to go into each emulators separate interface. The front ends are pretty ugly though. When I get an arcade machine I'm going to go look into the options.

Mame keeps getting slower the more they add to it. Standalone emulators are far better. I remember I could run CPS1 games on callus on my p100 but on mame they ran at around 5fps.

Similar project to this then ?
As you will see it's not great but the idea has already been thought of.
