Best laptop to buy?

    Hi all,

I'm aiming to buy a laptop for my startup business and was wondering what, in your opinion, is the best one to go for? I've been looking at the Dell range and they look OK (although bizarrely the price seems to jump by several hundred euro when you click on customise and buy link, am I missing something here?) the Inspiron 9300 looks pretty sweet, and is in or around the €1200 mark that I was aiming for.

Also, let's say for example I buy a system with XP home installed on it, then I format it and install XP Pro, does that invalidate my warranty?

As a matter of principal I'd avoid Dixons and the like, and sadly Komplett seem to only sell one or two types, I know Osmosis are pretty good, but they seem rather shy about listing prices :(

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Al

When ya click customise and buy it auto clicks the three year warranty and repair (adds 200ish). But its good to have if you have it for a biz. Claimy Vatty?

See the sticky on where to buy. Check ACER and Tosh and all them. Loads out there.Dont just narrow to Dell

No, your warrenty won't be invalidated, but it helps if you don't mention it to support if you hit a hardware problem. (Any excuse to get you off the line, with the worst of the support people)

Alternatives to komplett are the selection from elara.ie.

My choice last week for under €1200 was a Dell I6000, 1.86 Ghz 1GB Ram, 60 GB Hdd, WXGA+ screen from Dell outlet. Well faster than laptop below as 256 RAM isn't really recommended for XP. Nothing great there at the minute but take a gander each weekday afternoon till you run out of patience.
On the 9300 at that budget, you're exchanging speed for sake of purchasing the large 17" screen.
