    WMP10..

I prefer not to think about what Media Player I use. Also not a fan of using Media Librarys and prefer to navigate my music though Windows Explorer and play from there.. So WMP does what I need.

I know its not the best before someone raises issue with what I said.

Has anyone used iTunes extensively, and switched to WinAmp?

Foorbar. :) IMO it's the best music player.

I did at one point. iTunes was (and probably still is) a resource hog. Plus it takes absolutely ages to import stuff across a wireless network, why I don't know - its wasn't copying the songs locally - there wasn't enough room on the laptop.

Winamp 5.x with the ml_iPod plugin is the business if you are an iPod user.

All winamp 3.x and 5.x users should upgrade to minimum version 5.08 due to a security bug.

If you are experiencing slow performance starting 5.x switch to the classic skin.

Another + is the choice of streaming media radio stations - Afterhours DJ, Proton radio, XTC Radio London, Music One if you like techno or trance, Funkmaster, Lemixx if you like funk, Club 977 if you like 80s. (PS all these require broadband + there are loads more)

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

foobar? cool, i'll give that a shot.

I use Winamp and have been for about 6 years. I like the media library in it too, it gives you a chance to check out new bands and videos.

foobar is cool. very slimmed down. Is there anyway to show a list of all the artists so when i double click it all of that artist's songs play/are loaded?

Winamp for Mp3's. VNC for Movies.

    VLC surely?

Movies over VNC would suck muchly.

Winamp 5.08e for tunes, WMPC for most movies, VLC for anything I want to watch straight through or when CPU % is at a premium. Or for DVDs or wierd files (.bin images).

Indeed.... I was using VNC alot last night. But yes VLC is what I use.... My brain was elsewhere.

media monkey for music - has a nice encoder and doesn't eat resources.
on the rare ocasion of movies -> wmp10

When the new Winamp came out I switched to it for about 2 weeks to try it out. Went back to iTunes though.

My advice would be to try every player out for a time and see which bests suits you.

Winamp 5 - love the custom skins, visualisations and other plugins. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,981 ✭✭✭Diarmuid

winamp 5 with classic skin. Must have plugins are the ipod one, audioscrobbler and clock amp. All you need right there.

I use Slimserver too but that's because I have a squeezebox2 (one seriously kick ass piece of gear)

    WMP10 for me.

Not bothered but i'm a fan of WMP media library - very easy to navigate and easy on the eyes ;)

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but I use Quintessial for windows, it's fast it's free, and it does exactly what it says in the tin and does it well.

For linux it's xmms, but I don't like it and I too would be glad to hear of a good quality alternative.

Movies VLC all the way with windows, and mplayer for linux.

    real player / wmp10 / bs player
I switch between them from work to home, pc to pc.
Sometimes I use power dvd too.

I use winamp 5 for all audio. I don't like it for video though. I just downloaded the feature I've thought winamp needed for ages

    http://www.mpex.net/en/software/details/crossfading.html

I JUST installed it so I don't know how well it works but the idea is to remove gaps between songs and make it sound more radio/DJ.

I seu moodlogic to make mixes. ITs a great program but IS NOT UPDATED anymore. It'd be great to see something like it integrated into the winamp media library.

i'm always on irc so i use nn player which runs off winamp 3/5 directory

nn player is better for searching for songs n **** with it's nifty lil search bar and then advertise away :D

I've been using various forms of WinAmp for years, but I'm actually in the midst of trying out Foobar2k at the minute.
