Hey, does anyone know where I could pick up some old fishing nets?
I want to build a Golf Practice Net in the garden...
I was thinking of just going to some pier but as I will have to arrange transport I was hoping maybe someone could give me some other ideas to try while Im out?

    Cheers.

erm fishing nets have kinda large holes... so unless you wanna play golf with a football I doubt they'd work fo you.

The gauge of the net is dependent on what you are trying to catch, Shrimp nets for example.

I was looking for old lobster pots for a while,i reckoned they'd make excellent building material for an extension. Then somebody told me you could buy bricks in specialist outlets :D

Ahhh If I was you I wouldn't just take a trip down to the nearest pier and start hacking.... Fishermen usually leave the nets that they are not using around on the pier but thats not to say that they would like you to go cutting a big bit off the nearest net.
Are you in the Dublin area?if so it may be worth a trip to Howth there are a few netmakers out there and they may be able to help you out with some netting, and there are no shrimp trawlers here in Ireland.

Ask an old slapper if she has any spare fishnets you might get lucky

    Hi,

You could try the old tried and trusted scaffolding mesh, very small holes, strong but you could always put two pieces back to back, they'r green so they kinda blend in and light weight so you don't need a heavy frame.

Available at most building sites near you :)

Yunno I spotted some of that scaffolding net over the weekend on a site and I thought to myself, yunno thats kinda perfect!
Any idea where I could get some? I presume builders hang onto it and dont just dump it after each job?
Where do they get it from?
    Cheers.

Yeah I checked these out before, the nets are kinda small and they dont tell you the gauge, also the weight x shipping will make them pretty expensive I reckon.
    Cheers anyways,

    Hi Greebo,

The scaffolding nets can be bought from most of the bigger builders providers and hire shops, if you talk to the lads on the sites they will most likely give you a few metres.

It's seldom used twice because the H&S would pull them up over any holes that might in the nets, I'm not kidding when I say double up on it a good shot could put a hole through the mesh.

What surface are you using to hit the balls off? Grass would get wrecked I presume. I've an area that I'd love to turn into an artificial putting green and then I'd put in an artificial chipping area patch close by, to chip onto the green. Though I havent started looking into how to do such a thing and how much it might cost.

They're certainly are trawlers in Ireland that catch prawns, both on the east and west coasts. I've been aboard a few!

I have a few house mats that are basically a cheapo version of astroturf. They look like plastic grass, about 1.5cms tall. ball sits nicely on it, though I dont know how useful it would be for putting...
Ther nets you can get in Argos etc are just a once piece net, I wouldnt fancy hitting into that in the back garden, if you miss you are fubarred!
