Ok so lets get the "Birds" pun out of the way..... done

I am looking for a recommendation for webcab internet broadcast software that is cheap ( free even) and stable.

Have been asked to help out on a project to record / broadcast a live web cam feed of a birds nest.

The aim is to place a usb cam in a bird box ( which is nearly complete ) and then to broadcast this feed on the internet for all to view the progress of building the nest to the young leaving the nest.

The box has to be up by August of this year so the birds get familar with it for next years breeding season.

Am I being VERY naive or does one not just grab the picture from the web cam - it usually has a fixed name or a cgi to grab this, and then save it with the same name to your images directory on your web site.
A page on your web site has the image tagged therein and one simply refreshes the browser page every so often (with javascript I suppose) to get the latest picture up.
I have even seen it done as "Click here to update image" - have a look at Dublin Corpo's traffic cams.
So the question is what is the syntax for grabbing a JPEG from my web cam - answer " depends on your web cam".
How can I get the picture to my web site - answer probably FTP
