If so, what are they like? Decent employers? Any tales of woe? A friend of mine, who's undecided whether to change jobs to Meteor or another place she knows and likes, has an interview with them coming up shortly and would like to hear a bit of background info.

usual "friend of a friend" story, but I have heard they are pretty good to work for - especially compared to other telcos in Ireland.

The area in which your friend works may also have a large bearing - e.g. if it is sales, they may have very tough targets*, and she could be out the door very quickly if she doesn't perform (*total supposition, and not based on anything I have heard). Call centres are probably much the same wherever she goes.

One thing to remember is that there is a very realistic chance of them being bought over in the near future judging by stories in the business papers, so the new parent company may have a very different philosophy.

I'd have a bit of perspective on this having worked in the call centre for some time but have since left - if its call centre work most of this is contracted out to Rigney Dolphin in Dundalk and this is not such a good deal compared to being contracted directly to Meteor. Hours can be unsociable (as can most in call centre's!) and are target based and you will work pretty hard 99% of the time so its not easy work! Nice team to work with though.

As Eoin S mentioned it all depends on the area in meteor, certainly would be alot more enthusiastic about the engineering/sales/HR area's. There's 2 offices based in Citywest and are both very nice, small canteen area, pretty good training and there's a bonus scheme in place as well subsidised handset/calls. They are big into their personality tests in preliminary interviews and its not an easy interview by any means - they want to hear all the usual suspects such as team work etc.

If there are unsociable hours involved and she doesnt have transport - then its something she might want to consider as I dont think they automatically provide taxi's or pay back expenses anymore and if your stuck in citywest at midnight there's no other option!

If its for the shops, they work (or at least used to!) very independantly of the actual mobile operation and really are much more of a seperate entity, shop policy can differ vastly from 1905 policy! Apparently the bonus scheme is quite good though for the shop workers (so I was told!)
