    Hi,
new to satellite so i`d appreciate some advice.

Im a big motor racing fan, and i`d like to get eurosport and motors tv.

Whats the cheapest way of doing this? I mean both in terms of hardware, and minimising monthly fees.

    Thank you
    Shaun

i think they are on the sky family pack, not sure though

get a subscription with sky and you get the hardware for free. the family pack is around €30 a month.

Eurosport in German is FTA (free-to-air) in Astra 19.2 E. They show a fair deal of motor racing, and all the MotoGP, 125 and 250cc, plus I think some superbikes. Also in this satellite you can get the F1 from RTL and the also German DSF sport channel, although I ignore whether they show any motor racing. You could get all this with a one-off payment for the equipment and installation (I did mine myself), no monthly fees. Plus you can get many other channels from other satellites with the same equipment and more LNB's or a motor, but again I don't know if they show any motor racing...

    Thank you.

For Inigo, probably a stupid question, but is the commentary on those channels not in german? I could probably manage with the onscreen info.

For this option i`d need some cheapo dish, lnb and fta(no card/nowhere for card) receiver?

Yes, as I said they're in German. And yes, you'd need a dish, lnb and fta receiver. I've got the Lidl set and works just fine for what I want.

Thanks, I`ll have a search for one of those portable jobbies.

    Just Spotted:

does this system have potential for upgrading to a subscription service?

    and this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=43113&TabID=1&source=1&doy=26m5

What do you all think of these kits, ok? or can u recommend a better setup or other places to buy them. i`ve been through the stickied list, but they all seem more expensive than this.

The Technisat does have the potential for upgrading to a subscription service. Anywhere you see CI or Common Interface, then that's upgradable by plugging in a CAM or Common Access Module (looks like a PCMCIA card). I think the 46cm dish is too small - you should aim for 60cm at a minimum and either 80cm/90cm ideally.

The Maplin kit is not upgradable.

Also you can get Eurosport with english commentary in analogue on Astra 19E, so you might also consider getting a secondhand analogue receiver. The same dish could be used in conjunction with a second universal LNBF and digital receiver for simultaneous reception of the FTA digital channels on Astra 28E such as BBC etc.

buyansell.ie regularly has cheap analogue receivers and systems and ebay.co.uk has truck loads of them.
