I'm suprised the feds shut one down but afink they only got involved as they tracked the original uploader who released it. Unless they shut down several major tracker sites in a short period they're kinda fighting a losing battle.

Why? Bittorrent itself isn't illegal, and I assume they know well full enough that they'll have to monitor for illegal torrents. For the rest of us it stands to be a great resource for finding files.

Personally I think it'll draw the wrong kind of attention to the project.

You sure? (note: not all results when I did that search were work-safe).

Well, my faith in people just dipped a little further... I was so hopeful that the creators of the technology would be more responsible than that.

Any search engine can be used to search for illegal content.

If this is shut down, then google will have to go too.

Yep. And they aren't hosting files or trackers so they may be in the clear. It does somewhat go counter to the effort to promote BitTorrent as a legitimate tool for the legal sharing of files though. It's all a matter of impressions and rhetoric rather than any logical argument, but impressions and rhetoric count.
