Dog with lice

Got a stray dog a couple of months ago, a springer spaniel, which was infested with lice (looked like it had been rolling in sand, when the sand turned out to be lice). Got some stuff from the vet, and doused the dog with it, combed thoroughly with fine toothed comb, and replaced all its bedding, but it didn't do much. Repeated the process 4 times, and still the dog has lots of lice. Took the dog to the vet, and it got a shot for the lice, but it still hasn't done the trick. The vet is not very helpful, anything else to try, or do we have to keep going on like this?

Have you tried spraying the carpets, furniture etc in the house after you've de-flead the dog and replaced its bedding? Sometimes the eggs of the fleas live there.

The lice dont actually live on the dog, only feed off him, you will have to do as fuzzie bear suggested, do everywhere in hse that dog has slept, and then clean its beding regulary, wash it at 60 degrees to kill the eggs (the beding not the dog)

    peace

Stronghold usually does the trick with lice.

Or use a lice shampoo for kids that contains NEEM Oil. Neem is excellent for killing lice.

ya its been sleeping in the shed and we completely changed all the bedding each time it was 'deloused'. Somebody suggested mayonnaise, tried that too, someone else suggested engine oil but haven't had the guts to try that one :)

Will have a look for that NEEM oil shampoo, thanks.
