I am going to spain next week and I am bringing my laptop. Although I have few questions.

    1) Can I bring it on the plane as hand luggage.
    2) Can I use it on the plane.
    3) Also I will have some dvds with that which are copies, can I be done in for having illegal material my bag if they happen to search it. Ps: just a few copied movies you know.

    I appreciate all advice

    Regards

    Willem

You will be asked to open your Laptop bag while going trough security.. Watched Pirated DVD for 8 hours to Florida last year no problems... It the machine is wireless enabled you do need to turn that off!

rip the dvds to the hard drive ,no evidence then ! and less weight ( outbound is fine but inbound they try to make up the wage shortage with baggage charges)

hard drive probably used less battery than the dvd drive

Yup, almost anything so long as its not suspicious or overly large can be taken aboard.

    2) Can I use it on the plane.
Hell yes, what else do you do, tallent spotting is pretty limited on long flights!!!

    3) Also I will have some dvds with that which are copies, can I be done in for having illegal material my bag if they happen to search it. Ps: just a few copied movies you know.
Have never tried but they only look at the laptop and a brief look in the bag, maybe get a plastic wallet of a CD and face the label sides together they wont look at what they are, but if they do ask say they are copied so that they dont get nicked. Im with the suggestion of burning to the HDD, I advise using something like DVDx (free on zdnet.com) the machine will load as much as it can to the ram and then turn the drive off so you will go a lot longer that with the DVD.

Well you know what I might do then is just throw the old dvds in the suitcase because I havent enough space on the laptop harddisk, and play football manager in flight. Also I have heard a laptop battery wastes faster on a plane is this true, my laptop only has battery capacity for two hours.

i think there are some power outlets on the planes but it looks like they need some sort of adaptor.
Actually ive only seen these on the americian domestic flights, so im not sure.
If your laptop has cheap battery prices you could always buy another battery!

Having travelled a bit with my laptop, I can safely assure you the last thing security at the airport are going to be worried about is pirate DVD's. They are more concerned with all things security, you know, explosives, knives, guns, etc.

Put the DVD's into a CD wallet type thing and carry the whole lot on as hand luggage. You will only be prevented from using the laptop (or any electronic device for that matter) during takeoff and landing.

As for power outlets on planes, as Sparky_S said, they are few and far between. I have only seen them on US airlines and Swissair. Very unlikely they will be on any kind of flight to Spain.

    Yes you can

Yes you can, as long as you are not using the cd/dvd drive.

They can't prove that they are illigal, as they may just be a backup off ur copies.. remember you are allowed to have a backup.

From battery-life point of view, probaby best to DVD Shrink them to the HD. It would use up less battery than operating a DVD/CD drive. Aside from that, I think the electronics operating an optical drive can sometimes result in uber turbulence if you know what I mean :).

Although, I've been working on a router recently which is to be used in Budweiser's fleet of private jets which incorporates WLAN and ISDN over satellite. There's been a few posts in the broadband forum made by people using Internet connections from airborne planes (whilst flying over Ireland). The fact that more and more airline operators are offering internet access from planes (albeit via wired networks) would indicate that things aren't so nasty in radio-frequency (RF) land. If only Blueface and Ryanair would get together and offer airborne VoIP. That'd be great.

But then how is he supposed to watch his DVDs if they're not already ripped onto the hard drive, which seems to be what he was planning to do in the first place, i.e. play them through the DVD drive off the discs?

No, this isn't true (the battery thing). How on earth would it work? :) (The only exception is that if it's particularly warm in the plane or the laptop's vents are badly obstructed, power usage will rise with fan usage. I get much better battery life in the winter ;) )
