Hosting a VPN service on home broadband

You must be able to do it

Me and my friend are both on Eircom home starter and we want to create a VPN tunnel between our home networks so that we can transfer files, play LAN games, etc.

I have a spare Windows 2003 Server box here that I can use to host a software based VPN service.
Theoretically, if I give my friend my dynamic IP address he should be able to connect to me using a VPN client. We are both using the Netopia 3347WG router.

    Is this possible?

Should be, easier if you have a static IP on both ends, but eminently possible with dynamic. I use a vpn from my home pc to the office and another to my wifes school using eircom bb and it all works great :)

Yep, you can set up VPN services on the netopia box. You can use a static IP address or use no-ip.com for dynamic addresses. Watch your IP addresses though because if you VPN into someone elses network with the same subnet as your own network it wont work.

Thanks guys. I managed to get it to work last night.

My friend could VPN into my Windows 2003 box and we could ping eachother and share files.
