Anyone interested in playing American Football?

The DCU Saints plan on entering the IAFL next season, under our new head coach, and current national team coach, Phil DeMonte.

The IAFL season runs from April - August, but we will also be planning several games within the college semesters.

Membership is open to anyone, not just DCU students, and as a college team, we hope to be able to offer our players much lower costs of playing than the other teams in Dublin.

And for those of you that don't like getting hit, we also plan to run a flag football team. We've been in contacted other teams who want to play flag, so there will be plenty of opposition to play, if we get the numbers.

For any more info about the club, post here or check out

Well, I absolutely will be playing for you next year. I'll be going to DCU and have been desperate to play American football for about three years...I was a little worried that you'd only have a touch-football team. So you can chalk one up on the board, for definite.

Speaking of which, when would the training start? Immediately, or after Christmas?

Training should start in semester 1, after clubs and socs day.

We're going to have to do a lot of work, before we pad up, so no-one hurts themselves.
We plan on having 2 sessions a week, main one on sunday, and a chalkboard session on a weekday to run through the game plans/situations.
Since the season doesn't start till late in semester 2, we should get plenty of preperation in, and a couple of games in aswell.

Are you going to be using the "performance gym" in the fitness centre?

    Anyone can sign up.
We want to get as many people down to training. The more players we have, the better our season will be.

If you have any friends who'd be interested, get them to join aswell.
They don't have to be in DCU.

No, I was banned for telling Kingp35 I would send a certain item to his mother.

But anyway, we will be training in the DCU sports grounds on the Ballymun road in Glasnevin.

It's just down the road from the college.

When does full kit training start and will you be incorporating weight training into the training programme?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭BizzyC

Full kit training will begin whenever our kits arrive.
We'll have to wait until our grant comes in to see what we can/cannot afford.
At that point we'll order everything, but they usually take time, so to answer your question, im not sure.
    But hopefully mid semester 1.

We wont be doing weights as part of our training, but we will instruct our players as to what muscles to work on for their positions, should they wish to work out themselves.

Contact training on a sunday, a chalkboard training on a weeknight to learn schemes etc and some flag training during the week also.
