How are you going to produce the H2 ?

Because every mechanism I can think of to supply the energy would be more efficient if the enegry was directed at the wheels instead.

Removing the H2 from water would be the tricky bit. When you combust H2 you get water, so it would take (at least) the same amount of energy put INTO the water to separate the hydrogen from the oxygen. So lets say you did this (you wouldn't, electric batteries would be far more efficient at storing chemical energy, but lets say you did), then you would have a problem of storage. Compressed hydrogen is bulky and inefficient, and it's too difficult to maintain it in liquid form..

There ARE plans for hydrogen fuelled cars however, in the form of hydrogen fuel cells. They (afaik) are using methane or methanol as their hydrogen source however..

There was a program on the discovery channel about building some massive city in a cone in japan(i'm not actually thick i just am not relaying 45mins of television) and to power it they were talking of something like that. To obtain hydrogen in a gaseous state one suggestion was pond scum, when the microbes in it respire they produce hydrogen and this could be collected. In essence this woould mean the most advanced structure in the world running on pond scum and only producing pure H2O as a "waste". This energy has the bonus that it produces fresh drinking water. And the initial fuels are free, pond scum. In my opinion its inspired

as far as i knw electrolysis is a good way of gettin hydrogen from water..dunno how much it wud cost to do it with water to create enough hydrogen to power a car...then there's the thing about it being highly combustible(excuse spelling  )..one way to do that i'm sure maybe wud be to use some sort of free radical that might chemically combine with outside heat combustion before creating the explosion..that may sound stupid but i've heard that it can be done..another example is ethanol..it's been suggested that it can be used as a fuel or can enhance fuels performance a little..i know it can be done anyway they use it in brazil..hydrogen i think is a good option but its dangerous..are there free radicals that can be totally chemically inert along with hydrogen and still block outside reactions and heat from sparking free pure hydrogen from exploding..then again is hydrogen if broke from water at any sort of equilibrium? the oxygen wud have to be freed. this wud be expensive i'm sure..sorry if this makes no sense but i think hydrogen is an example of an alternative..how to make it safe is another question..petrol is dangerous enough but hydrogen pure gas worse..van der walls forces?? can van der waals be used to mildy bond hydrogen to oxygen making is slightly more liquified..(i know this only applies to certain bonds but can it be done with hydrogen and oxygen using an manmade method?)? or is the electonegativity too great between o and h? this might sound stupid but i think hydrogen is worth the research as a fuel type. maybe an isotope of hydrogen wud also an alternative..hydrogen deuterium? heavy water..cud that be converted giving energy,

you hardly copied and pasted that in did ya kid, lmao, oops i can't spell:"being highly combustible(excuse spelling )".. but ya had no bother spelling "electonegativity" or "deuterium" lol. people aren't that gullible!!!! :D:D

I hardly copied and pasted it you f""ing twat! I know who the f**k u are no you b**xs! how did you find me here? I done chemistry for 2 years in college fergus! i should know exactly how to spell is so get a ****in life and leave me alone! sad prick! try copyin my grammar from a site and using it. i dont think you;ll find technical sites with bad grammer u eejit!

This requires putting energy in the form of electricity into the water, then you would go and burn said hydrogen to make it into water again. You aren't actually getting any energy from the water, it's coming from the electricity, which makes it moot. It's a stupid way to do it too because you could just put the electricity straight into a massive car battery. a) it's more efficient (there's far less waste) and b) you can store far greater amounts of electric energy easier than gaseous hydrogen.
    hydrogen deuterium?
Heheh.. are you trying to make a nuclear car?

    It's all hypothetical anyway because:

<whore>Hey ecks, ya know you wouldn't have to busy yourself with this trivial crud if I was mod of this forum ;) </whore>

I don't know what you're suggesting you'd save me from then because that's the trivial crud I busied myself with in this particular instance.

I was just suggesting I could have dealt with it on a local level. I take your point however.
