The door on our fridge broke yesterday :( so we are shopping for another.
Took a look at three websites (ESB, Powercity and DID) for info on a fridge that will fit and noticed two fridgesthat will suit our kitchen (both have shops near us in Lucan).
    The differences are as follows:-
    Zanussi F180w:-
    PC €279.95
    ESB €299.99
DID €339 (discounted by about €50*)

    Bosch 20323
    PC €319.95
    ESB €339
DID €369 (discounted by about €50*)

    * their site won't work now so I confirm accurate discount

Now without researching every product there, it does seem to me that DID are making a substantial mark up on these products despite claiming to be a discount store!

On a different note,I was in Halfords in Liffey Valley today looking at a car stereo.I'm getting the Sony CDX-F7750 through work for €280, which is how I know the RRP from SOny is €379. Halfords are selling for €429, thats €50 over the RRP. Whatever about a shop sticking to the RRP but Ive never seen an electrical retailer go over the RRP.

DID have good service though - I rang them a few years ago for a part for my oven (which I bought elsewhere) and they sent it out free of charge..

Halfords seem to be over pricing. I had a discussion with them re a child-seat which they were selling for around €10 more than the normal price _but_ claimed it was at half price ! I said it to the manager that they had it on half-price in their UK ads and that this half-price was approx half the Irish half-price. The manager sortof muttered something about getting the prices from head office and (in an even more muttered tone) that this wouldn't be the first time they had got wrong info...

OK, went to both DID & PC yesterday and DID had the Bosch one in stock but listed at a tenner cheaper than their website!

She ended up choosing & buying a totally different fridge anyway in PC!!!
However, what really surprised me was that even though they had our details on file and that they were delivering the fridge, they would not accept a cheque. We wanted to keep our credit cards clean for an upcoming holiday so I had to go out to the drink link to get money! :(

Went to Halfrauds in Liffey Valley on Saturday to get a car roof box.
Ended up dealing with this guy who really was clueless!
Anyhow we ended up buying one for €340 IIRC - the UK price is £232 [using XE.com to convert this works out at €337].

However, this was a lucky (for me!) rare occurence I believe!

DID have a policy (at least they had last time I was in there) in that if you buy something and find it somewhere else cheaper they will give you double the difference back. So buy the Zanussi F180w in DID for €339, come back a day later with proof of the price in PC and pocket twice the difference!
