I've a zoom 707 multi fx pedal .. had it a few years and its handy for some sounds and practicing with headphones...but the input & output jacks are now well and truly knackered - I have to keep moving the cable side to side to get a connection and the signal keeps cutting out etc -annoying

is there anyplace I could take it to get the jacks fixed for cheap?

I dont really wanna fork out for another pedal but on the other hand it doesnt make sense to spend more than 20 bucks to get it fixed.

Have you tried just tighten the nuts at the mouth of the jack . When the come loss the jack sinks in and the fore the male end cant reach in to connect.
If its not that then replacing jacks isnt a bis job , once you get the new female jacks , anyone who owns a soldering iron should be more than capable.

The jack sockets are probably soldered straight onto the circuit board and and have broken the solder after many thousands of plugging in/out, tis common enough, though wiggling it about will only make it worse. If you know anyone who knows how to solder bring it to them, should be no more than a 5 minute job.

i had that pedal and had the same problem with it and the doc is exactly right its a 2 minute job...just unscrew the back and resolder the jack sockets back onto the main circuit...piece a piss...if u don't get it i'm sure if u bring it along to practice brendan will sort it for ya

Thats what kept on happenin 2 my boss ME30. Eventually I brought it 2 a guitar shop but he said it wasnt able 2 b fixed. I asked A guy I knew to try and fix it and he got the detatchable plug from the top of a adaptor and he wired it in to my pedal. it works fine now

Absolutely everyone I know with a Zoom pedal, including myself, has had the exact same problem.

Yeah ...Zoom units are pretty **** tbh ...not really built to last. I tried an ME50 in a shop on capel street one time and it did the same thing ...guy had to fiddle around with it for ages to get the signal goin ..no way was I parting cash if it didnt even work in the shop !

ah the zooms are only really a pedal to get to get your understanding of effects going and then flog em imo... if u were into effects as a permenent part of ur setup and wanted good sounds zoom is not the way to go fo sure

true .I was surprised with the boss tho !did u have any trouble with the GT6 in that respect( now that I'm not buying it you can tell me ;-))

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

no the gt-6 was absolutly perfect in that respect no problems anywhere.. it was made of metal so u could've run a tank over it (like all boss pedals)... never cut out on me once

ye, having the exact same problen myself for the past year. Have played gigs with it too, it cutting out so I end Up kickig it half way across the stage.. so annoying. On thing about the soldering. It is impossible to ge the jacks from the inside. Once you screw off the back, you have the circuirt chip which just does o budge. Im guessing its connected to the jacks and so removing the chip would just pip the whole thing apart. I do hat ethe padal but I do have so great great effects on it.
