Irish Book Awards Launched

    IRISH booksellers Hughes & Hughes, has launched the Irish Book Awards.

    The awards will expand from the current Irish Novel of the Year Award to include the Irish Children’s Book of the Year, the Irish Non-Fiction Book of the Year and the Irish Book of the Year.

    The first three awards will be decided by judging panels; the Irish Book of the Year will be by popular vote.

    The awards are open to Irish authors, published in the UK or Ireland, and the prizes are in cash. However, just the Novel of the Year prize amount is known at €10,000, with the yet to be announced.

    Dancer by Colum McCann, won the 2003 Hughes & Hughes / Sunday Independent Irish Novel of the Year.

    Ronan Bennett’s Havoc in its Third Year was declared winner of in 2004
