Why do you want one? There is going to be very little software that takes maximum advantage of them when they are first launched. Unless you want to do some heavy multitasking or have an application you know is highly multi-threaded I wouldnt bother.

Agree with the squirrel man there. I have a dual processor box in work and tbh the 2nd processor is rarely used because most applications aren't threaded yet. We're starting to look at threading the application I work on now though, so stuff is surely in the pipelines in other companies too.

Next gen games will hopefully all be threaded.

Next machine i build will probably have a dual core.
I know there aren't many programs that take advantage of both cores at the moment, but they will surely come.
I'd be fairly certain that games will also take advantage of dual cores.

The guide prices of the dual core AMD cpus aren't much higher than the high end single cores.
And the lower end dual cores perform really well in comparison to the single cores.

For me i like the multitasking advantages the most.
I often want want to run fairly cpu intensive stuff but end up having to leave it run over night as my current machine will be almost unusable.
So to be able to runs things in the background and not notice a performance hit would be great.

Obviously i won't be able to afford the highest spec dual core processor, but the lower end 4200+ dual core came out fairly well in a recent comparison that i read.
Can't think where it was, most likely Toms Hardware or Anandtech, possibly Ars Technica.

AMD are still going to be pushing single cores at the games market, but if i can play a game and run something else in the background, i'll definitely choose that.

The only advantage i can see at this early stage is that s939 boards will be able to fit AMD dual core chips :D

    Taize.

Its worth bearing in mind alright - you could get a 939 board drop a single core cpu in there for now and upgrade to a dualie when the price is right.

Although I believe the next AMD pin out is on the horizon? There are also rumours going around that some of the opterons will be going to socket 939 too.
