Great city for walking - when I was there they had a whole system devised to encourage tourists to walk around the city - they had special signposts with the different quarters (e.g. historic, shopping..) colour-coded and estimated times and distances to nearest attractions, so you could work out how many things to visit, add new ones as you go along, take a little diversion here and there - really excellent and no need to fumble with a map on the street and look like a touristy-twit!

    Also tourist office very good.

If you like history/especially American History - there's oodles of it.

Downside is some really rough areas - to be avoided!
