There was a huge riot after the cagewarriors show last night. It's been posted all over MMA news sites. Here is the report from sherdog.
COVENTRY, England, May 21 — A riot broke out tonight at CageWarriors: Strike Force following the main event where Frenchman Marc Emmanuel knocked out local hero, Barrington Patterson.

The writing was already on the wall — as the main event was announced the crowd surged forward, pressing against the cage with the security nowhere to be seen.

As soon as Emmanuel's victory was announced fans began to throw beer at the French fighter and his team. Crushed cans and glass bottles rained into the cage, soaking the French entourage and narrowly missing Patterson, who was still prone on the canvas and being tended to by paramedics.

Despite the ring announcer's repeated appeals, violence soon erupted with fists, bottles and chairs being used as improvised weapons.

This reporter saw at least two casualties, unconscious and bleeding, one of which appeared to be a young boy. With security in total disarray, the riot police were quick on the scene and did a superb job of dispersing the crowd and taking charge of the situation.

The potential effect of these scenes for the future of UK MMA remains to be seen. More details will follow soon, along with a detailed report from the event.

    Summary of results:

    MMA
Mohamed El-Aouji def. "The Freak" Chris Freeborn - Submission (triangle) R2
Bendy Casimir def. Dave Swann - Submission (side choke) 4:07 R1
Boris Jonstomp def. Jim Wallhead - Submission (neck crank) 4:20 R1
David Baron def. Dan Hardy - Submission (triangle) 3:10 R2
Danny Batten def. Emmanuel Fernandez - Submission (triangle) 2:18 R2
Gregory Bouchelaghem def. Ross Pointon - Submission (rear naked choke) 4:10 R1
Antonio "Junior" Silva def. Marcus Tchida - Referee stoppage (strikes) 3:03 R1
Matt Ewin and Damien Riccio - No Contest
Marc Emmanuel def. Barrington Patterson – KO R1

    Kickboxing
Cyrille Diabate def. Mike Bisping - Decision after sudden victory round

It's a disgrace. I was at a cagewarriors show before and everyone was pretty respectful. I think the wrong crowd may of went to last night's show. I think this is going to have a big impact on MMA in the UK and on Cagewarriors too.

this has been HUGELY exaggerated, as would be expected.

"I think this is going to have a big impact on MMA in the UK and on Cagewarriors too"

yeah just look at soccer....well er.....wait a minute....

There's crowd trouble everywhere there's idiots.
As for banning, I think it might give some of the PC brigade who don't like combat sports something to ring their local radio phone in for a night, and then it'll be finished with.

Once MMA loses its mystique for these people and they see sportsmen getting into the cage, shaking hands afterwards and generally acting like sportsmen they'll get bored and stop coming. Pretty much like Bushido where people came wanting to see Englishmens heads ripped off. That'll leave more room for the fans.

There's a big difference between soccer & mma though John. MMA takes enough criticism as it is, and this surely can't help.

Soccer came under pretty heavy fire from the UK government in the 80's. It really had to get it's act together and came up with the Premiership, and the whole family fun thing.

Well you only have to look at the demographic of the Bushido Rings crowd to see (scumbags aside) that it's quite easy for MMA to become a family event. There were a lot of young kids in the 12-16 year old region there.
If you think about it, it's only natural that these dedicated, life and limb warriors should be a better example to young people than say, a millionaire diving, spitting, injury faking footballer.

It's funny really, parents will allow their kids to watch the consequence free WWE wrestling, with chairs, tables and whatever being smashed on peoples heads and backs, but frown upon MMA or boxing.
