NTLs secret digital package!

    WTF?

    from Sunday Times
It is a well-kept secret, but there’s a cheaper package available to NTL’s 102,000 digital subscribers.

You won’t find it on the company’s website and you’re unlikely to receive a flyer through the post, but the group is offering its Select digital product for just €5 a month, which is half the cost of its frontline Go digital package.

Select offers 50 digital channels as a top up to the basic package of 17 stations, which includes Irish and UK terrestrial channels. NTL might even throw in a free subscription for an extra connection to the basic package for a separate room.

Why the secrecy? Clearly, it’s not in NTL’s interest to push the Select option over the more expensive Go product, which offers more than 100 digital channels.

According to the company, Select is reserved as a “taster” for those unsure about upgrading to digital and as a step-down product for those wanting to cancel those extra channels altogether.

I feel an e-mail coming on.

Anyone got this or even heard of it?

    Mike.

Well an e-mail to find out the line up will help to see.

NTL would ring people that didn't have DTV and offer them this package as a way of getting their equipment into the house. Once they signed up, NTL would figure that they'd want to upgrade at some stage to get all the channels on the normal package or even take the sports/movies package.
I'll post the channel line up later for you.

NTL have always had "secret" packages for a good while - AFAIK you are able, with a lot of persuasion, to subscribe only to Sky Sports 1 & 3, or Sky Sports 2 & 3, not the entire package - likewise with movies - either Movies 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or Movies 2, 4, 6, 8. Chorus is also the same - even though they quote one digital package on the website, alternative cheaper packages that were advertised a while ago are still available...

So it's a mix of NTL basic and Astra FTA
except SKY MIX , DISCOVERY +1 both of which don't show anything not shown already. (BBC World - FTA on hotbird)
or have I missed something ?

Still a fiver for a digital box isn't bad - but apart from the better picture quality and the ability for PPV (I guess) what else is there to entice someone with FTA and NTL basic to upgrade ?

That's a shame. I was really hoping it would be the channels I like and not all the ones I don't even know of. Unlikely but would have been nice.

Still a fiver for a digital box isn't bad.

'Select Digital' is €5 + basic subsription.

'Go Digital' is €10 + basic subsription.

Is this similar to BB value? It is mentioned in the T&Cs but it is not on the website.

Explains why on the NTL bill I got this month, the usual item for "Go Digital" was replaced with "Go Digital Max". Wierd.

Yeah they've come out with new names for the different packages.

Also those new small set top boxes where at one stage going to be sold in shops, dixons, currys etc.
Anyone out there with one who also got the instruction manual would've seen it had instructions how to install it yourself. Again a sales pitch to get NTL equipment into the house. But that idea never took off.
