Do you use a joystick for Retro gaming?

Hi,

Normally I use the keyboard for gaming but some really do need a joystick like of old to really have a fair chance especially a lot of those shoot 'em types in Mame. Anyone use a joystick that good and responsive? What make do you reckon is good?

The best sticks are made by Hori. Keep away from Nuby sticks/pads, they're awful. The X-Arcades aren't very good for the money either.

Byrdo sells sticks but they cost 3 or 4 hundred dollars.

i use my old n64 joypad for gaming. it cost me £15 to buy a usb adaptor to get it working but later i found i could've spend £15 on a joypad that plugs straight into the usb port anyway.

x arcade for mame is very good

I run Mame on the xbox so I can use the xbox joypad which has all the buttons you need and you can hook up to 4 joypads to it for multiplayer games. The stick is analogue though which isnt like the retro 4-microswitch ones (that go 'click' when you push up, down left or right) so you might not like the feel of it but the convenience makes it much better than using a keyboard.

xarcades are cheapish in maplin stores at the moment... worth a look, i taught they were crap too till i saw price in cork maplin cheaper then online w/p+p

£20 quid for a double arcade stick. The sticks and buttons aren't great but you could could put some Sanwa parts in there no bother.
