    Hi,

am going to Egypt for 9 days on the 3rd June. Starting in Cairo and then on towards Luxor etc...

Anybody any tips on what is good value to buy over there?

    In particular music cd's?

and maybe a tailor made suit? :-)

    Thanks

-Bits of tomb walls, ancient artifacts, kings treasures will all be offered.... (all sworn to be real of course.
    -Dodgy perfume and carpets
-Music of local artists, naff pop, and eighties rock bands
-Baksheesh should also consume a good portion of your fundage

Actually not recommending any of the above, just remembering what was on offer when I was there.
And Barter like ****. (If they are happy with the price you paid too much) Absolutely everything is negotiable -even the price I paid for my visa (I bought it when I arrived there)

Didn't buy much myself. Didn't find quality all that great.

Are the pyramids really dangerous, like with terrorists n stuff?

I'd love to go but I've heard all the stories about terrorists heading for the tourist ares

lived in the middle east for a yr and a half and went to cairo for a holiday, its absolutely amazing.

key when buying stuff is getting the price down, dont b shy it goes on in all the arab countries. tbh the traders etc love the banter, esp if your irish, they normally recognise the accent!

nicest thing i bought when i was there was this small piece of glass that was fashioned into a little bottle, kinda like an ornate perfume bottle. was really cheap too. papyrus is a must obviously, being in egypt and all.

if you get a chance go to the pyramid light show, has to b the most amazing show i have ever seen in my life. i was there nearly ten yrs ago so not sure if they still put it on but if they do go to it.

defo hit the cairo museum, some really cool stuff there.

only negative thing i have to say: dont go buying rugs etc. didnt go on the usual tourist stuff when i was there and as a result was brought into one of the factories that the rugs are made in, absolute disgrace, young kids working for nothing. they aim the rugs at wealthy americans and europeans, stay clear if u dont want a guilty mind!

ye its true that there are troubles in the middle east but when things die down its well worth a visit. i'll defo b going bck some day. israel is one of the most beautiful countries i've ever been to but maybe i'm biased cause i lived there and had such an amazing time.

i really envy u going!! make sure u enjoy it!!!
