It's about time, although I can see alot of people bidding on stuff and not paying because they haven't got a clue what Ebay is all about.

what do you mean no-one will pay posting, and there are other counties in ireland besides Dublin

I guess those squatters from ebid.ie who registered Ebay Ireland Limited just so they could get the ebay.ie domain got a big brown envelope in the end so.

I still don't understand, ebayireland has been around for ages, and has a good few users, ok it wasn't fully catered to .ie.

And back to the postage issue, if you buy from .uk etc. you will still have to cover postage seperate to get it delivered here.

How do you know the majority of users would be from Dublin ?

Just interested why people you giving this the big no-no.

ps. its difficult to decipher your posts

So anyone used it yet? Still some bugs to fix, but looks ok.
You can transfer your existing ebay account over to .ie here:

    http://cgi1.ebay.ie/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ChangeMyEmailLangLogin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 900 ✭✭✭cosgrove80

When I go to ebay.ie it just asks for a username and password and wont let me in.

    What's up with that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭Sidane

It's not open for business yet

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,564 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

I was able to "sign in" with my usual eBay login details. I ignored the large form boxes and clicked on the top link.

When you do a search though, unless you specify items located in Ireland (under the advanced search) you'll just get international items.

There appears to be feck all stuff located here but worth a look anyway.

    :)

I was probably the first person to transfer my reg to IE :) And revo(i know you but you don't know me! HA), stop talking a load of shíte. There's already over 200,000 Irish users, they are all just spread out over the .com and .co.uk sites so it is fairly successfuly already. It's just a matter of persuading people to tranfer their reg to IE :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 66 ✭✭CaptainPeacock

This is great news and all but it doesn't make up for the fact that I paid eBay for seller fees twice by bank draft and both times they stole my money without crediting my account. I'm still getting Final Notices. I wonder will this kind of thing change with ebay.ie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,412 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

HaHa classic, I know you too (MR.LAPTOP) . i wasnt ditching it but i just think sales on eBay ireland would not be as good as you know yourself UK is much larger market. its just my thought thats all

why are nearly all the listings still in sterling?? Also when I do a search it doesnt just search items in ireland they way the .co.uk site searches england.

It think it still needs alot of work

give it time and we'll see... maybe if we had a few more Irish power sellers ;)

Probably because there hasn't really been anything listed on IE since the protection was only removed a day or so ago so people are only recently able to access it and transfer their account over to IE. It will probably default to searching for all items 'available to Ireland' or else just search the UK site for the moment.

are they any irish people selling stuff on ebay yet

For years there have been people selling things. Some is crap tourist stuff while other stuff is just the usual ebay fodder. There is some guy who sells the magazines that come free with the Sunday papers (he seems to make a lot of money too!)

no, ebay is like bt ireland (formerly esatbt, esat), if you have an account that works, don't change it, or else you risk attracting the wrath of their billing dept

I just listed an item on the .ie so potential buyers see a price in EUR, that is good enough

I'll keep my membership of .co.uk and so I am charged in GBP for fees

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,412 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

iv been looking through ebay.ie seems to getting a bit more popular

this fella seems to be selling alot of mobiles at very low prices ?

I assume the more people transfer to .ie the more advertising eBay will target at the Irish market. If the buy and sell can do so well then eBay can fly. The buy and sell is naf online.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,256 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

I transferred over and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Even if you search the .ie site, you can still serahc the .co.uk and .com sites.

The one problem I'd have is that while it gives you the price of the item in Euro, it doesn't give you the postage price. Just a small niggle though.

lads i didnt want to reopening a new thread so i just reopened this one

how does buying the somthing of the seller before the auction goes

lets say i said the seller 'how much will it take for u to close the auction early' he says '150'

how does this work will ebay cover me and paypal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

I doubt ebay and paypal will cover that, ive always told poeple to bid if they want it.

I keep trying to transfer over but I keep getting this message

Sorry, we cannot process your request at this time. Please try again later

headshot: thats a really really really bad idea - its TOTALLY against eBay rules. you wont be covered and your account will be suspended if he reports you. bad idea.

Unless you're talking about the "buy it now" feature, then it's against ebay rules. Best to put in an autobid for €150 (if that's what you're willing to pay), and ebay will automatically keep bidding on the item up to a max of €150. If you win the auction for less than €150, yay you.

I've started selling a few things on eBay already.
For anyone wanting to do likewise, this and this are a good ideas. That way you can get a rough idea of how much postage is going to cost you.
Does anyone know anywhere I could get some cheap padded envelopes? I'm selling CDs, DVDs and books, so am looking for envelopes that size. I'm thinking Read's, or are there any cheaper places?

ive only ever bought one thing off ebay. It was a hard to get original tape. It was something I really wanted and couldnt get so i found ebay excellent.
It is but i was outbid on something that I really wanted for my bro. it was another hard to get item. I was outbid by 1 pound sterling at the last minute and I was gutted. You gotta be wise when u use ebay since i wasnt experienced, it was like a ratrace! lol.
However when I did win something on ebay, it was the uk site and I had an awful lot of trouble trying to get them to proceed after I told them I didnt have a postcode. We dont in Ireland. It wouldnt let me proceed Thats why I think that an Irish one is very handy. Its national at least.
But I had a problem with my credit card and I won an ebay bid, and I couldnt buy off the mem i won a bid off of and I sent an email explaining this and I failed to get to him. I got an unpaid strike then. :(

I use both a BOI and TSB account and the funds transfer in there straight away.

I wouldn't bother changing over to the IE site.
I was registered on ebay.coma and getting lots of business from the states. After I registered with ebay.ie the orders from the states have practically dissappeared!

I suspose Americans don't tend to do searches outside of ebay.com!
