Is there any application freely available that allows me to rip a selected 30 second clip from a DVD?

the latest version of dvd shrink should allow you to do it, you can set the start and end frames for the section you want to rip

i've got version 3.1, not sure if this works with any other version. go into the re-author mode and drag the movie accross to the left. at the top right of the reauthered dvd screen there's a symbol with 2 arrows which allows you to set the start and end frames for the bit you want to rip. hope that helps :)

You can download Imtoo DVD ripper. It will rip it to AVI, MPG etc.
For AVI it will rip it to any codec you specify, any resolution you specify and you can choose certain sections of the DVD to rip.
