i was looking to upgrade my ram to 1024, but since i dont know a huge amount about ram, i figured i'd ask here. i know its PC3200 @ 400mhz, so i found this,

    512Mb DDR RAM, PC3200, 184 pins - Matrix on shop4memory.com for €60 including delivery.

is that a good enough deal?

yes sounds very good, but just to be sure what Make model is your computer, (assuming you didnt build it your self).

If I've done all my calculations and RAM selection correctly, than Crucial have it for just over a fiver cheaper (inc del.)

Some PC's don't like it if the timings aren't the same on all sticks. CAS2/2/5 etc. Try and get the same as what you have.

You'll probably find all the setting for the RAM are displayed in the BIOS. You might want to double check.

I recommend this tool it will tell you everything about your system/ram. It's only about 1mb and you dont need to install it..just unzip and run.

    ok, just one last question.

i found out my system is the dimension 8300, and i did the memory configurator, to see what ram can go with my system. this is what i got back

    http://memory.neon-drive.com/s4m.php?model_num=15&oemid=DEL&thisman=DELL

does this mean this is the only ram i can use, or is this the ram i got with the machine?

with dells its better to stick with whats recomended, you wont notice any preformance increase with faster Ram anyways unless your Overclocking which most Dells dont do, there prices are very good < 100Euro for 1 Gig excellent value.
