I have a dell dimensions 4300. I've already upgradedthe ram from 256 to 512mb and i taught that was the max occurding to the dell site. But however i was looking at this site

    http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/desktops/0,39023849,10000047,00.htm

and it says that max is 1GB. So has anyone any idea if dell could be telling porky pies. Dont have two spare sticks of 512 ram lieng around so cant check it ou! :D:D

According to the Crucial Test you have 2 banks of 1. It says it supports up to 1024MB.

Thanks, saw that on another memory site too.

why the dell documentss wrong so?? Its weird.

Can i get one 512ram and use it with one of my 256 sticks? or do i have to go straight to 1GB?

    Thanks again

If its 2 banks of 1 then you should be able to buy whatever size stick you want.

But, do you have 4300 Systems or 4300S Series. The series has a max capacity of 512MB. Better check, if your documentation only says 512 then you might have the series.

Hmm, I suppose if still in doubt and you have a spare hour or 2 you could ring them, or buy a 1Gig stick and it'll work.

    Have a look at www.shop4memory.com

Largest you can get off shop4memory for a dell 4300 is only 512mb chips @ €100.

Also under the memory config on shop4memory when i ran it this note poped up.

"Notes: * The system will only recognize 512MB".
