For the model 1993-1997 does anybody have the variosu trim levels to hand. Preferably in order of increasing level.

They only had one standard trim level in Ireland. It was the XLi. There was a couple of special editions alright.

In 1995 there was the "Ceres" which came in 5dr hatch only. It had colour coded bumpers, central locking, rear head rests and velour trim.

In 1997 there was the "XLi Plus" which had a driver's air bag, white speedo/rev counter and upgraded stereo.

so no drivers airbag as standard until the XLI plus in 1997?

Why would you want to know that?

hard to imagine, I know, but if I want to buy one I would like to know what trim/spec each model had and what that model was called so I could zero in on it in the various ads and not waste my time looking at spartan models.

In an older car I would have thought a model with less gadgets would be less to go wrong...

Most cars from the early to mid 1990s of this size were spartan. Almera, Escort, Golf and Astra all the same. The Corolla was no different. If you want an honest cheap reliable car with good mpg find yourself a Corolla, if you want gadgets then I'm afraid you may have to look for something else or something a bit bigger. Try looking for a Carina E, they had electric windows, twin air bags, ABS, and a 1.6 lean burn engine back then and can be had for silly money these days.

the gadget I want is the drivers airbag. I need the spec level because it surprising how many people misdescribe their cars in the buyandsell ads. You get ads with "5 door saloon" quite alot, and the vague "4 door hatch".

forget about the airbag. the most important safety feature in a car is excellent dynamic handelling. and the pre 98 model dont have any. that car is frankly unsafe due to the rear axle config. the 98 on model is very very surefooted on the road. i took a sharp corner accidentally late at night once at 90 mph on a back road many years ago and apart from HUGH tyre squeling the car gripped the road like a leech. if it was the pre late 97 model i would probably be dead tbh. go for a late 97 on one, u wont regret it.

90mph on a back road at night? One you don't know...Hello? The problem there is not the car.

Would you not need to get something like an airbag serviced to make sure its all working? Where do you get that done? Just curious?

I read quite recently that 10 year old cars with airbags, should have them replaced with new ones! So bear that in mind.
