I'm heading to Vietnam in a couple of weeks and planning on doing a canoe trip in Halong Bay. Anybody got any advice about what to do / not do?

I was in Halong Bay last year. I did an overnight on a boat there, its what everyone does. Its a really beautiful place and I had good clear weather. The boat I stayed on was really nice, with very clean accomodation and loads of food. There were only 9 on board and it was a big boat. I was a bit dissappointed with it though, by the time we left Hanoi and got to Halong Bay it was 12 or 1 in the day then we set off, sun went down about 5:30 and we were back in port for about 1:00 again teh next day. So even though I'd signed up for 2 days/1 night it felt like only 1 day, if you have plenty of time on your trip I would recommend doing 2 nights and go fo some kayaking as well, its a good place to relax away from all the hassle of Vietnam. I could dig up some details on how much it cost. There are hundreds of travel agencies in Hanoi offering the trip, I paid a bit more than average but to be honest you'd probably be as well off to go for the cheapest one, they're all pretty much the same except they'll be more people on board but you'd probably end up having betterr craic. Halong Bay is absolutely crowded with tourist boats.

I meant to say the standard 1 night trips don't include canoing, basically there isn't enough time for it, the 2night trips do include it. 2 nights is the way to go as you'll have 1 full day in the bay.
