It's a bios flash you're looking for. Check the ATI site.

What do you mean by messing up every five boots? Flashing the BIOS won't fix any problems you're having if they're driver related. Give us more details and we may be able to help.

Basically every now and then I get a distorted display with millions of black lines.

I have used the most up to date graphics driver from ATI for this, so I was suspecting a BIOS Flash may solve the issue

Are you overclocking at all? That could be an overheating issue. Or is could just be a dodgy card. The only reason I'm looking at other options is that if you flash and something goes wrong during it you've got a very expensive paperweight.

Is this happening during game play?.....e.g. if playing BF1942 blacklines eminating from your crosshair out to the edge of the screen

It happens the odd time when I boot up I see the lines from the BIOS Screen to booting into the OS...

I got it off a friend who got it in thailand so maybe it is bogey

Could be a heat issue allright. Don't bother flashing. Check the heatsink by touching it. If it's not hotafter a few minutes use then it's not seated properly.
