    Anyone here have opinions on:

    (i) Fender Twin

    (ii) Fender '65 Twin Reverb?

The first has a distortion channel and a wattage control thing which sounds handy but the Twin Reverb has THE reverb (and to a lesser extent the vibrato). Musician have the Twin in at the moment so I'll try it out but what's everyone's views?

welll do u need distortion from an amp or is that sorted...personally i'd go for the twin reverb cos its just about as nice a clean tone as you'll get from an amp imo... feylya would pick the twin cos it has wheels on :p

    Wheels good, fire bad!

I'm not sure if I'd use a Fender amp solely for my tones. I'm using one at the moment purely as a loudener but I don't think I'd be happy with one.

what do u use for your tones...

i like fender tones especially the twin reverb...it depends on what tones u want really

I was thinking of getting a twin reverb because I like the clear sound and I like reverb. And for distortion I was going to use my ProCo You Dirty RAT

yeah i don'tknow how well the twin reverb takes to harder distortions but it sounds great with a rat

well I'm a pretty big swans fan and I know they used twin reverbs with lots of distortion and it sounds **** cool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

oh right i've always used the amp for my basic tone and then just used effects to colour it

there ya go but i'd try the amp witht he distortion i plan on using 1st casuse thats a **** when u have to mess around for a week to get your distortion to stop screaming

I play clean most of the time now but I do need distortion for some songs. I'll give the Twin in Musician a whirl and see what that's like. Then I'll look for a Twin Reverb to test

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

in that case twin reverb but trying both can't hurt anyone

that's true but I am swayed majorly towards the Reverb, I just thought I'd post and make sure that the Twin wasn't some mad cool new amp that I really must buy

oh i hear ya brother...the twin reverb would be my chioce over most of the amps in that range across all makes...unless u wanted to get a roland jc120

Solid state but gorgeous. Dunno how it handles distortion.

Boosted fenders can have a wicked distortion tone. but it has to be done lightly. Other wise it can sound gick. I mean the original Mesa's are modified Fender Bassman circuits so. There savage amps all together chief...

It does that very well, believe me. About a decade ago i played in a band and we did quite a few Slayer covers, and i played through an old Twin :)

Does he do amp maintenance/fixing as well, by any chance?

Would be just handy to know...

I love the clean of a JC120 but doesn't beat a fender clean. Even the little fenders have great clean channels. It's wat they do best :)

Not specifically, but he can. I had him change a power supply in an ashdown mag300 which I idiotically bought on music123.com and didnt think that it might come with the old 110v supply. damn americans.

when your exams over john, afaik trinity runs quite late and im off to the states on the 7th june...

Also, may as well plug his company, Sensible Music ... http://www.sensiblemusic.ie

We used a Twin V recording our new demo- with an '82 gibson les paul custom going through it, the face taken of the amp and two nice mikes buried into it sounded beautiful!

The reverb on this one is still absolutely deadly and the footswitch distortion is better completely cool IMO
