My gf got herself a second hand car from a garage in swords 4 weeks ago. At the time the salesman said he had the logbook in another office and he hadnt got it at the time but was going to send it out to her in the next few days.

There is still no sign of the logbook and every time we try contact him hes not around. But she went out to the garage on friday and he was there and fobbed her off saying his office in swords was back logged and it would be another 4weeks before he could send it out.

The problem is the car is not taxed, its been out of tax for 3months now and she needs the logbook to get the car taxed. And with all the Garda checkpoints around she is nervous when driving the car.

What should she do or can anyone give any advice to sort this out?

    Thank

seek the advice of a solicitor.

A solicitor would be expensive though, i thought there would be an easier option?

Just mention the word solicitor to him. That should be enough. Or dump the car on his forecourt and demand a refund unless the documents are produced. Do this while punters are viewing cars. I wouldn't take any **** off him.

Best thing might be to be a thorn in his side. Go out to him every day until it is sorted. Talk loudly to him so that other customers can hear what you are saying. If this doesn't work then mention legal action.

Legally does this mean the car is still the propertly of the garage? If so maybe you could resort to getting a few parking fines for them to get the finger out.

Hmm, does this mean that if she is caught for no tax the garage would get the fine?

Go to the nearest Garda station, tell them the situation and that you're so concerned because you can't get the car taxed and you're afraid you'll get in trouble etc. etc., and ask them what to do.

If you're lucky he might have a little bit of previous history of doing this sort of thing and they'll be aware of it. At least they'll give you an idea of what to do.

Or contact the motor tax office. They'll sort him out.

NO Tony, the MTO won't care. The only thing to get the finger out is to clock up a few parking tickets., maybe a 100km/h run out by the red cow. Then they will notice.
