at first I power cycled my modem and my wireless router (WRT54G)
ever since its dropping connections every few minutes
    any ideas.

In the end I left the recent bios on the box and reset it
When I reconfigured it all was well
Maybe there was some problem with an old setting on the new bios ??

    Anyway its perfect now again

do you mean that you moved your old settings onto the new firmware with a backup/restore?

apparently you're not supposed to do that as there can be differences in setup config options and you could well brick your router. or so i've read on linksysinfo.org anyway.

just out of curiosity how did you set it up with your broadband connection?

did you turn stuff off on your modem (dhcp etc) and manually configure the router or just plug it all in and follow the instructions on the install cd?

My DSL\router has a 4 port switch built in so I Pluged the linksys into 1 port, 2nd port goes up to a another switch upstairs and the other 2 are used for laptop or whatever that don't have wireless

I plugged it into my router which gives dhcp adressess
and let it receive an address. eg 10.1.50.1
    I tested internet connectivity,
    All working,
I give the linksys a fixed IP's and set it to give out its own dhcp eg. 10.1.50.10 +

This works but its not perfect.
I would love to have only the main router giving out DHCP and
the wireless router also interferes with NATs I setup.

well, you're still doing better than me!

am going to try and get it working again as soon as my BB couter is reset (over my cap this month already) next month.

I'm just setting it up with it connected straight to my modem with a PC connected via wired ethernet and a laptop over wifi.

I've had it working sporadically, but can't seemt o get it working properly.

    very odd.

    I have a WRT54GS -

Setup Two Laptops - One Centrino - one wired - Desktop wired -

The bb connection to the wan port on the router.
    desktop connected to port 1
laptop(wired) connected to port nr 2

    Laptop centrino connected wireless -

Router static ip adress - assigns dhcp adress to the rest.

Running win xp pro - home and suse 9.2

No problems at all with the setup, wireless running at 54Mbps

Just added my switch for the server connected to port 3 -
    again the same no problems.
    :D:D

Update the firmware and reset the router reconfigure it
