Abybody every come across this before,

Today i installed norton systemworks 2005
Installed all the extra that came with it,One of the is called can't remember the name of it but is a sort of a system restore,If i remember correct its called Goback

Anyway installed this Goback - needed a reboot afterward so i gave it a reboot when windows was starting up-Crashed a nice blue screen of death stop code 0xd1 (driver) problem,

So i rebooted it again to go into safe mode, bang crash the same stop code, pointing towards "Goback2k.sys"

Now i can't even enter safe mode - last know config.

Tried to boot of the Xp cd's this service is loaded at boot i thaught lets fire up a recovery console and disable it - Did a Listsrv - found it Goback2k.sys set to disabled rebooted and the same thing happend again, and still cannot get into safemode either,
A different stop code this time,

Booted into my trusty suse 9.2(on a separate hdd) copied most of my files and download across.

Anybody how else to sort this without reinstalling the OS couldn't be bothered if it does come down to that i won't

And i tested the hdd this morning.

do you think maybe it's a problem with it not liking the dual boot?

No i don't think so, I have checked the on the net about this goback2k.sys and i'm not the only one is having problems with it.

I still think it is a service or a driver that gets loaded at start up that is causing this, even when starting safe mode before you could see Goback2k.sys being loaded then it crashed.

Just ran another chkdsk /p now - no problem with the drive

do you have access to another windows machine that you could hook up your drive to as slave and delete the systemworks folder and goback2k.sys

I am Running SuSE 8.2 Pro And It dosent have wrte access to NTFS, But i think 9.2 dose, if so you can delete the Program from the Programs Folder and hopfully that will let you boot into windows, if so then check the event viewer to see what specific file caused the error.

Thats the whole problem you can't boot to xp or safe mode when this happens, Blue screens straight away - i know what the problem is it is goback2k.sys - If i could boot to safe mode i would have removed it by now but that is not possible at the moment.

I copied the mindump across to suse and then to another xp machine a laptop that i have fired up my debugger - count so far is 12 bsod's - fault driver - buckett goback2k.sys - image goback2k.sys

As for suse your correct you can read but not write, that is how i copied everything across -

My Solution was to delete the GoBack Folder from within SuSE, but no write access means it wont work. sorry. but from what I've seen on a few other fourms it might still work (as in SuSE can write but maybe not very well, either way the folder wil be gone, Might be worth a try as a last resort).

you can write to ntfs from suse using this

no but im planning to install it when i get my connection back at home, should work fine, it's tested on suse 9.1, but should work fine on 9.2, seen something similar on a mates machine bout a year ago, not sure it was the same one but it worked well

    Hi Angelofdeath,

I'm just installing it now, it is still searching for ntfs.sys and ntoskrnl.exe - the one's it found are not the best.
