Anyone going in to the Merrion tonight for the €25 no limit holdem tournament?

Has anyone played in this before and is it a decent setup....actually can anyone confirm that its on for sure cos I just found out about it on their website? Was gonna head into that tournament in the Spawell but it sounds like too much of a ripoff so its a first casino appearance for me then...

Hi Pinchy. Can't guarantee if this tournament is still on as it has been ages since I last played in it. I do remember the last time I played in it however and I vowed never again. With up to six re-buys, limited chip stacks and a quick blind structure I thought the game was totally chaotic. If you do play allow yourself at least 4 re-buys as the blind structure doesn't allow you to wait for premium hands or even to sit tight for the freezout period. Given that it’s a re-buy tournament the idea is to amass a hugh chip stack during the re-buy period therefore be prepared for maniacal gambling and the beats that that ensues. If you do head along please give your opinions as I’m interested to see whether the structure or standard has changed since I last played in it.
In case you are not aware there is also a tournament in the Fitz just around the corner. Registration is at 8:00 with kick off at 8:30. It’s a 55+5 NL Holdem tournament with a single re-buy or top for 50 (max spend is therefore 110). There are also scalp chips in operation which means for every person you eliminate you get their scalp chip which can be cashed for €10 each. Generally the standard can be quite chaotic also but the structure and chip stacks allow for various different strategies. Starting chips is 2,000 with an added bonus of 400 provided you are on time (8:30). Re-buy/top up chips is 3,000 and blinds start at 25/50 with 20 minute intervals.
Either way enjoy the night and hopefully you’ll bring home the bacon.

thanks for that. the fitz game sounds good but I dont wanna be spending €110 my first time in cos realistically I'm not expecting to see a return on that my first time. I was hoping to play the merrion €25 and get out of it with one topup making it 50 in total but your point that youd wanna be epxecting to a few rebuys if your gonna mix it up and hope to be in a good position come freezeout is a valid one, but I might go in hope cos its really just for the experience. might play a bit online beforehand and if I make some profit I might hit the fitz instead.

Gonna try get to head into the fitz sunday afternoon cos the €30 freezeout sounds like a good intro game.
