Does this software exist - isolate bass lines in music?

    Hi

Anyone know of any software that's useful for bringing up the bass frequencies in a typical tune? I'm looking for something to help me work out the bass notes to various songs, sometimes the bass line gets camouflaged by the other instruments. Ideally, I'd like the rest of the instuments/vocals diminished and the bass part brought clearly to the fore. Is this possible?

    Thanks,
    John

It's sort of possible with some skilful eq'ing and a decent graphic eq. Are there any tunes in particular you want to get the bass line for?

Doesn't the new Tascam trainer do something similar?

You're able to slow down the song and isolate parts and instruments, afaik...

    Have a look:

Separating the components is impossible, but you may be able to more easily discern the baseline by shelving off the frequencies above 150-500hz with EQ.

Any wave editor will do it. Try Soundforge, Wavelab, or Cooledit.

Yeah I know I won't be able to elimate the other frequencies completely but hopefully enough to make the bass line more discernable. I'll give Soundforge a whack and see how I get on. Thanks for the advice.

If you can, run the audio out to a decent set of speakers, youll only hear mush through a PC speaker
