Hope I am posting in the right place
treated myself to a Zen Micro for my birthday , got frm DElLL when 199.00 offer on but only opened today.

    Charged Battery
Loaded software (laptop crashed in middle but had MediaSOurce on already anyways

Moved 50 albums over vis USB 2 PCI card on laptop. was impressed with speed.

    Tried to listen too

    Nearly cried
    ANd confused
Music nstruments can be heard fine mostly, but voices are like whispers and a million miles away at that .

also some whiny sounds in back ground

a few albums I tried songs were startign and going into loops of first seconds, if I skipped to next track it played
but not with anythign like proper voices

    ALbums: Paul Simon Graceland
    TOri AMos Boys For Pele
    Aimee Mann The Forgotten Arm

Swapped headphones, Sony and JVC, both find with other players
used with and without the wired remo I bought

Any ideas would be Greatly appreciated !!!!

    My birthday is spoiled !

Is there possibly some sort of advanced equaliser setting in the controls of the Zen that are causing the sound to come out all weird? I don't have a Zen but I know that some of the audio effects in the EAX console of Audigy cards can really cause weird sound, since the Zen is also made by Creative maybe that is what's wrong?
[Edit] now that I've had a google about this it appears that the Zens do have EAX effects so that would definitely be what I'd check out before thinking there is something else wrong.
    Oh, and happy birthday.

I´ll recommend you to contact the Creative support, they might know more about it.

Yeah, contact Dell or Creative support. It sounds like your unit has a hardware fault.

were the songs already encoded on ur hard drive and were they reimported into the software supplied with the creative ?

if you reincode a lossless file to another lossless file the audio will get messed up usually

    Thanks for all the replies

formatman i dunno what lossless means !!

The MP3s play fine off the laptop, and fine on the Creative Zen Jukebox I have.

Duridian, you're right about EAX, I've messed with it a little on my external sound card and it does creat the effect somethign like I am getting

I have posted on creatives fourm but no luck

I also re installed all the software but have not got to retry anythign

I dowmloaded latest firmware but wondered should I hold off on update ? in case I am returning the unit ?

Not sure how the zen works but can you bypass the software and manually put the song onto it?

Plug in the zen and go to my computer. It should show up. If it does look for a music folder on it and manually drag your files onto and see if they work.

    ok
after hours of sstem restore and re installing creative stuff i found the problem

    the headphone hole thing

will work perfectly if u psh plug a certain way but must hold it in place!!!

1 hours use, or less , a month old

should i just return to dell ???

Absolutely send it back to Dell and get a new one, no reason why you should hang onto something that's faulty, you're entitled to that surely.
