Does this seem strange or am I missing something?

Got a new laptop with 802.11g nw built in. My desktop is connected to a Belkin Pre-n wireless router. The laptop can't see the router as a wireless network.( No wireless nw available) .. If I connect a plug in PCMCIA 802.11g network card to the laptop it works fine, so the routers signal is good. Device Manager & task bar show the built in card is present & working correctly.
