Changing Recycle bin icon

I'm having a bit of difficulty changing my recycle bin icon. Does the icon have to be a dll file or can it be an ico file?

I am going in through regedit.exe and can see that when i input an incorrect path a default icon appears then when i change the path back to the original
%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,31
it returns back as normal.

I've tried changing the identifier between 0 , 31 and none. still won't work.
Would it be due to the size of the file i want as the icon

Delete the bugger for clean deskie

Go to START > RUN

Type GPEDIT.MSC

Navagate to USER CONFIGURATION >ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES >Click on DESKTOP,

On the right hand pane find " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop " , double left click on it to ENABLE it.


Or just go to Windows directoy find the icon replace the icon with another of same name.

You need microsoft plus installed do do it this way. What is microsoft plus?
I don't have it.

got it sorted. I ended up just downloading IconXP. Handy little tool for editing, drawing and adjusting icons. My desktop looks lovely now.
