Does the name have anything to do with Eircom's reaction to VoIP?
"Free calls between VoIP-ers? God, we're going to be ruined!!!"

The name comes from the expression "blue in the face" - meaning someone is talking a lot.

"I'm blue in the face telling people what blueface means" ;):D

Where did you get that from?

This sounds correct, because the actual meaning for "blue in the face" is "extremely exasperated". See here.

However, blueface could come from this, or this (check the logo in the corner), or this (not a chatty fella, mind you), or these guys, or even this (my favourite).
