Not withstanding that I'll be going to Shortstacks two weeks before, I wanted to let you all know about the NW Championships that PPP are supporting in Ballina. Its the culmination of several heats but you can buy directly into the finals.

May 29th, starts at 6pm. (5pm reg). IPPTC compliant.
Its a 100+10 Euro entry with one 50 rebuy OR topup. So max spend is 160. The prize pool is estimated to be between 23K and 30K based on 100-150ish players. There is about 7k being added to the pool from the heats and 1K from Paddy Powers, so theres extra value to be played for!

A few of us are thinking about either getting the train (and a few mobile stt's!) and making an night of it.

I've got a special rate in the hotel (The Ridgepool Hotel, Ballina) so if you want a single room (65e) or a double room (110e) then ring:
096 24600 and ask for Joanne. Tell her its for the poker event or mention Tony Rafter's name for the special rate.

I'll be TD for the evening so you are assured a fair game. All monies in will be paid back out except for the reg fee.

Anyone on for a road trip?

    DeV.

Do not reply to this message, it is obviously a desperate attempt by a middle aged gay man to secure the company of naieve young boys to engage them in unsuitable acts of intimacy (and that's just what'll happen on the train!) ............................................ :-) Anyway, only joking (as you might have guessed). I'd be up for going, I assume the train will be leaving from Heuston so that'd suit me, I wouldn't go on my own but if others were going and we could have a laugh, a few STT's and a couple of cans on the train then I'd be up for it. I know I'm not one of the Board's inner circle but please understand that none of my mates are poker gimps so if it's open to all then I'd be up for it. Please post any more concrete details you may have closer to the date.

    Thanks.

IE: Where in Ballina it's being held - The only place you mention is the Ridgepool Hotel - is that where it is? Also you say that it's a culmination of several heats - But where are these heats and are they still being played? I heard about a tournament in Castlebar the day after it had been played - was this one of the heats?

The tournament itself - is it self dealt? And as it's PPP - Is it the standard two antes or the three ante structure that was used in the Irish open?

Any further info would be great cheers.

BTW - I hated the three ante structure at the Irish Open - indeed yet to meet anyone who thought it was a good idea and it didn't exactly speed up play - Do you know if this format will be repeated next year?

Ouuuu that's a nice overlay, and its the day after the end of the IPT event in the City west. Looks like I might be covering several corners of the country that weekend. Is there a train that actually goes all the way to Ballina or is it to Sligo then a bus?

    Mmmmmmmm Oooooverlaaaayy! :D

Well I'm gona be in Dublin that weekend. If there's a crew heading up to Ballina Sunday morning I'd be eager to tag along. Most likely be in the Fitz on the Saturday night beforehand.

Was in Galway (my home town) last week and suggested to my mates there (all who have a basic grasp of hold 'em) that we hit the casinos on Saturday night and make a killing against what are reported to be fantastically loose players. However, no takers. Think some are afraid of what the often tipsy players will do, given many have huge bankrolls and will call any raise if they have even a sniff of the action.

No sorry, I was unwell for a while. I'll give all the details when I get better.

PPP had absolutely NOTHING to do with the blind structure or level length in the Irish Open. Three blinds wouldnt have been my choice either. This will be 2 blinds and self dealt until the latter stages of the tournie. Antes will be 25/50 starting and 20 min levels throughout. It will have a 75/150 and a 150/300 levels too. Starts at 6pm and will go on for probably 8 hours. Lots of play and probably 3-4K in chips to start.
One rebuy OR one topup for 50 euro for 4K chips (structure still being tweaked).
I'll be aiming for a cross between the 100 game and the 270 game in the fitz.

Thanks for that DeVore - But still need to know where it is being held.

If the structure is still being tinkered with one further question and one suggestion -

Will there be running antes when the blinds are higher?

    and the suggestion -

The structure sounds as if it is going to be similar to the IPT weekly events - if so I have always thought that it could be improved by increasing the clock to 30mins after the rebuy period a this then turns into less of a crap shoot.

However - given that these events usually take place in hired rooms organisers tend to want to finish as soon as possible... But something to think about at least.

Its being held in the Ridgepool Hotel in the centre of Ballina.

I'm aiming for an 8 hour event from start to finish. cards in the air at 6pm and winner announced at 2am so thats a lot of time really, when I do the maths on the chip counts etc I'll see if we cant give 30 mins at 200/400 and 300/600 as thats when it can become pressured.

I dont forsee an ante being used. Its just not common practise in the NW and its their tournie in the end of the day.
