Hi Folks, I'm hoping you can help me here.
I want to get the "Gainward GeForce 6800" as it's getting get reviews, but unfortunatly, only the LE is available to me due to the VGA port.
I've been told that LE stands for "Lite Edition" and generally equates to crap.

    Can you debunk this myth?
Is the "Gainward GeForce 6800LE 128MB DDR AGP8X" a good card?

    Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by this?

    .
Generally, however some LE's can be modded to GT ;)
Do you intend to OC? Or are you more interested in performance at stock settings?

The GT only has: 2 x DVI-I - 29 pin combined DVI ; 1 x VIVO; Compatible Slots 1 x AGP interfaces. So it won't connect to my monitor (I'm assume I need a VGA interface).

I would overclock, all the reviews (for thr GT) recommend this - but I'm talking amature night here - strictly amature!

So I take it you wouldn't be put off by the "LE" then?

    (edit: cheers for the link)

No wont be put off by the LE - 30 quid more than a 6600gt and it runs better than it so still an alright buy.

Apologies about the posting all over the place; there is some twong downstairs messing with the server and i keep getting disconnected.

:D No worries sound! Basically I've about a €250 budget, and I'm afraid of getting stung, as this building my own machine is virgin territory for me.
Can you guys recommend another card (I'm naturally looking for the best games preformance) in that price range? or will I just go with it?

Seriously? So I buy the GT card, and my old Trinitron will plug into it sound?
...if this is a wind up ;)

Not a wind up. Even if you don't get the included adapters, I'll give you one. I have 4 lying around!

    There cheap as chips

I think the GPU in LE cards are generially faulty chips that cant be clocked higher....and it isnt set in stone that the extra pipes can be opened up without massive graphical crap appearing on your display!!!

Dont get a LE card with the intention to overclock it as a primary reason as you could be horrible let down!!!

how does the 6800LE at standard spec compare in performance to a 9600XT?

    A 6800LE will outperform a 9800 pro and maybe even a 9800XT.

You can be sure its much faster than a 9600XT.:)
