I dont like the idea of new machines being emulated , i like the older ones just cos the games will die otherwise.

Added to the fact whats the point in playing a GBA/PSP/DS type game not on handlheld in the form its meant to be in.

Firstly, every machine is at some point a "new" machine. If emulators aren't developed when the machine is popular, there will be neither the interest and support from other developers/users nor the necessary number of people willing to dump roms for the game. Admittedly the latter is blatantly against the law and I'm not defending it, just pointing out that this is why it happens.

Secondly, I've played many a GBA game on the console and on my PC, and while the graphics on some games suffer on the whole most games were easier to enjoy on the bigger screen. Keyboard playing sucks arse, but a reasonable usb joypad should do the trick (ie one of the 15 euro jobbies from Argos). I mean, arguing that you can't enjoy a portable game out of the portable context is basically saying it's a crap game, except that you can take it anywhere. At least to my mind.

I don't think emulation will hurt the DS really. I mean you can't use an emulator on the bus and they won't be able to copy the touchscreen.

I own a gameboy but I prefer playing the games on an emulator on my pc through my telly with a joy pad. Sad yes? The metroids look so much nicer on a 26" screen with 200 watt speakers pumping out the tunes :)

Why not get a Gamecube and a GBA player? Surely that's the best emulator you can get.

No I meant, if you have a Gamecube you can get an attachment that plugs into the bottom of it and allows you to slot in GBA cartridges so you can play them on the your TV screen with your Gamecube controller...

It's a healthy alternative to piracy.

TBH the main reason I used a GBA emulator in the first place was because I wasn't convinced I could be arsed buying one. I don't often have the chance for portable gaming and for stuff at home I have a PC, a 'Cube and a still-just-about-working SNES. None of the GBA games I played made me think it was worth buying, and I haven't played any or looked for any in months if not years.

Mind you, from the perspective of a GBA owner who wants to play them on a big screen, I think it's pretty insulting to be told "hey, if you want a legal way to play these games on a big screen, you can buy another console and a special adapter. That's fair, isn't it? Much fairer than, say, just an adapter that plugs straight into a tv's rf/SCART video socket". It's the same as the super gameboy; if you already own the console, grand. If you don't, it's not much help. (Note : I still own my gameboy and yes, I am a happy owner of a super gameboy)

Right like MAME/CCS64/Atari 2600 noone interested in them, the idea behind it to keep old games alive . The games on new handhelds are designed for the handheld, playing them on a pc 1st loses the actual idea of the game, 2nd removes anything the developer had created for the game.

Suppose a monkey is a monkey.....

And I suppose all the people who use handheld emulators to play the games on a big monitor own the games? Thought not.

GBA games were stupidly overpriced in this country. Flash cart is yer only man.

I don't think the DS emulation will hurt it much to be honest. Even with a mouse I don't think alot of the touchscreen gameplay will translate well.
