Is that skate park ever going to open up in Cork? Isn't there plans for somewhere on Penrose Wharf?

I'm not a skater myself anymore, I used to do a fair bit when I was a wee lad smile.gif It'd be nice to see a few half-pipes etc.

I was thinking about this though. First of all, would there be a market for it? There's obviously loads of people skating in Cork but would they be willing to fork out a fiver or whatever to skate when they could just stay on the South Mall?
The insurance issue must be the biggest thing blocking the development. My advice would be to get onto whoever insures the Martial Arts folks. The insurance there is pretty cheap (bout £20 a year), if safety regulations were drawn up and enforced I'm sure it would be no problem getting insurance.

I remember seeing this park in France where this guy created a kind of a 'sculpture' that really closely resembled a skate park smile.gif I think it was classed as art but the skaters used it. The guy even let them spray-paint it and everything. Really cool.

but skating is art... :) isnt it. must look into it. i just started skating... for some reason (i dont know what) and it well enjoyable... i dont know would folk be willing to fork out the much every week but you'd never know. afaik the one in dublin is £5 per session and £50 per season (i am totally open to correction on that one) the £50 would be worth it.
