The Prodigy, BJ Penn was arrested for apparently striking a uniformed police officer after an after-party for Rumble on the Rock. MMA in Hawaii is already under heavy scrutinization for having a 14 year old kid fight in a trial fight for the ROTR test matches.

I think this is a real blow to mixed martial arts and a real bad spot for BJ to be in. He faces up to 5 years in jail. BJ is easily the best P4P fighter in the world and there was speculation that he would rematch against Matt Hughes at some stage.

It will be a real shame if he goes away for this.. The full story on what happened has not been officially announced but someone from Hawaii posted after ROTR that BJ hit some guy who attacked him first.

    Thoughts?

What was he doing hitting a police officer in fairness! Would be interested in getting both sides of the story..

From what I've been reading and I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate but some guy sucker punched BJ in a club and he ran after him and took him down.. Two police officers were hired for ROTR's after party and one of them went to break it up and BJ hit him in the heat of the moment.. Something to that effect.

Why didn't he just arm bar the cop :D

Hitting a uniformed cop unprovoked? I've no sympathy for him tbh

Sounds to me like the cop "kinda" got in the way!! LOL

But then the law is the law, and he did hit a uniformed officer, there is a punishment for that unfortunately! Unless the cop drops charges that is.

I can only assume that drink was also involved?

Well it was an after party, so I'm assuming everyone was wasted.

Not sure but he got beat.. He didn't get severly hurt but he could of.. He says he still wants to fight. By the time he hits the legal age to fight, I'm sure he'll be well versed.

No? Care to back up your statements? The man went from cleaning up the 155lb division to jumping straight into the 170lb division and beating the near unbeatable Matt Hughes. Then he jumped up to 185 and beat the undefeated Rodrigo Gracie who is no slouch himself, beating asian sensation Sakurai.

He's beaten Gomi (top 155lb fighter today), Hughes (current ufc welterweight champion), Uno (former shooto champ), Rod. Gracie, Din Thomas, Matt Serra (jiu-jitsu champion and black belt), Bang Ludwig (k-1 veteran). Come on man, who else in the world has accomplished what he has across multiple weights.

He is the best P4P fighter in the world. Name anyone else who comes close?

Damn that forum! Damn it to hell!

But seriously, BJ Penn has climbed and conquered weight division after weight division.. Although he hasn't the record of Fedor or the high kick of Crocop, BJ Penn in his own right is p4p, perfect.

Hope he jumps bail and they send Dog after him. Now that's a fight I'd like to see.

ps I'm welll aware he'll be jailed in Hawaii not Chino.
