last night i had to take apart my computer to help out a friend,i.e removed the chip, gfx card, etc..

when i put every thing back together i found that it wont boot past the POST stage...the LCD on my mobo gives me the POST code of "7F" (the manual is of no help here) and i am getting no signal to the moniter

as far as i remember when i originally built the system a few months ago the same thing happened but i cant remember what i did to fix it :(

iv checked to make sure all the cables are in right and every thing seems ok so im at a loss as to whats wrong

my spec's are in my sig

    any help welcome :(

The first thing i would do is reseat everything, the obvious answer.
Then i'd try an out of case build.

A similar thing happened to me a while back, no signal going to the monitor, i reseted the cmos settings and it sorted it out, try that.

iv tried removing everything and putting it all back but nothing changed

i also cleared the cmos which had no effect

7F: Switch back to text mode if full screen logo is supported
-If errors occur, report errors & wait for keys
-If no errors occur or F1 key is pressed to continue: Clear EPA or customization logo

I was going to say remove the GFX card and use the onboard video, but it doesn't seem to have it.

Looks like you're going for the old "Everythign out, one thing back at a time" sequence. Remove everything except the CPU (and fan!), and start it up. It should give the correct POST error for no RAM. Insert the RAM, boot, it should give the correct error for no Video.
    etc etc.

For some reason, I've a feeling you've fried your GFX Card. Have you a spare to test?

Pobably best to have a HDD with it's power cable attached as well so the PSU has some load on it - don't connect the data cable till later.

    Indeed, good idea.

ok after hours of testing on spoon's computer, i released that on his graphics card there is one of those gold pins (the ones on the teeth of the card, where it goes into the AGP slot) that is half broken. So theres not full contact!

So we are about 95% sure its that that is causing the problem. Do you know if it can be repaired easily? Cheaply? Or just RMA the card?

    Suggestions?

Spoon is gutted and needs help here! Im writing this for him as he cant post (obviously!)

    Cheers

i dont think it would be easy to fix as a piece is broken off, so RMA is his best bet
