Winchester overclocks?

Hmmm, it's either me and my inexperience in settings and overclocking or something is limiting my attempted overclocks. My RAM = Corsair PC3200XLPT, Samsung TCCD.

Voltage set to the maxium my Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 nForce4 Ulta will handle, 2.8v, i'm running the latest F5 BIOS dated April 29th 2005.

I can't seem to get this memory past DDR433 @ 2-2-2-5. So i change timings to 2.5-3-3-6, PC won't boot and just freezes and i have to use a jumper to reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

So i try another tactic, leave default memory timings and use a divider. Set memory manually to 180MHz drop the HTT to 4x and push the FSB to 240Mhz.

This gives my 3000+ Winchester 0510 a clock speed of 2.162Ghz. But i've seen guys to way higer. Set memory to 166 and push FSB to 260Mhz with a 3x HTT...freeze, no boot.

I've tried setting the CPU voltage to 1.450v, any ideas what is holding me back?...or is there a limit to what nForce4 motherboards can go in terms of raising the FSB, do they really crap out past 240MHz?

What is your mem rated for? I pushed my Winchester past 2.5ghz with my mem running @ 1:1, so they can do it. Maybe you got a dud?

Winny 3000+ isn't compatible with that motherboard.

*Edit: It appears as if they've finally passed the chip with that mobo. Time to see if I can overclock if more than 200mhz

Tis indeed, it's a socket 939 motherboard and it supports Winchester. CPU-Z 1.28.6 properly reports the chip as does Windows. My memory is rated for DDR400, but on numerous reviews i have seen that this memory will go as high as DDR500 with looser timings.

The Winchester is 0510 so it's a very new chip. It's either my BIOS/motherboard or the memory holding it back.

Well, I've the Winchester 3000+ and that motherboard and I can't get above 2000mhz. Until the newest bios release, my chip wasn't even offically supported

You might also check out the brand new BIOS for said motherboard, dated May 3rd 2005:

I'm confident the BIOS releases thus far are not that great, stable...solid but not good for big overclocks.

I had my FX-53 at 2.6Ghz, 200Mhz over clock. I have the 3000+ Winny at 362Mhz over spec.

I think over time with more BIOS updates this board will improve.
